This is based on my previous laser finger gun question. I am mainly asking this for fun and physics experience. These lasers are high powered pulsed lasers. However, since the laser needs to pass through the body they would naturally harm the character. So how cab it pass through without major bodily harm?

The character has powers such as being able to integrate technology into their body, and control over electromagnetism in their body.

  • The lasers should not cause lasting pain/damage

  • They should be able to come from any area in the body without harming it.

  • The lasers can have custom power, pulse length, and beam diameter.

  • They are infrared.

  • The user is a human.

$\begingroup$ What exactly do you mean by pass through? Is this more like walk through a laser grid unharmed, or walk through a laser grid without breaking the beam? $\endgroup$ Commented Nov 13 at 18:48

$\begingroup$ why does the laser need to pass through the body? Why not just form the laser at the surface? $\endgroup$ Commented Nov 13 at 18:49

Fiber Optic Laser Veins

Your character has integrated fiber optic cables throughout their body, running parallel to their circulatory system, using their bio tech integration power. These aren't just conduits for the laser, they're fiber lasers, where the fiber itself is the gain medium that generates and amplifies the light.

This is real technology! Fiber lasers are one of the most common industrial laser types, used for cutting metal and other high-power applications. The fiber is doped with rare-earth elements like or ytterbium, and when pumped with energy, it generates coherent light along its length.

For your character:

Power Generation: Their control over electromagnetism lets them pump energy into the doped fibers, essentially turning their entire circulatory-adjacent fiber network into a distributed laser array.

No Tissue Damage: Light stays contained within the fiber through total internal reflection, the same principle that lets fiber optic cables carry internet signals without leaking. The light never touches surrounding tissue until it exits at the designated point.

Flexible Output Points: With a network throughout the body, they can route the beam to exit from any location the fibers connect to.

The only time tissue gets exposed to the laser is at the exit point, which could be a specialized port, either a physical or biological lens. From the outside, it might not look like anything but a tiny reflective dot on their skin.

  • $\begingroup$ Just slap ports at where the body hair should have been, also get free permanent epilation everywhere (but if you'd need to shoot lasers from the cranium top, there would be obstacles). Special mention: toes, parts of buttocks that face each other, inside of joints, back side of ears, eyelids, lips - I'd say not use these parts for lasers unless required by the story. $\endgroup$ Commented Nov 14 at 11:44
  • $\begingroup$ @Vesper "parts of buttocks that face each other" Maybe just spread them before firing? Would be one hell of a demoralizing effect on the enemy (unless you're the Nyan Cat). $\endgroup$ Commented Nov 15 at 19:24

The only way is for the character to make their body transparent to the laser.

Normally human body is opaque to IR, so the laser would cause damage.

Since they have power of manipulating the electromagnetism of their body, they can do it.
