Latest version of Oracle SQL Developer (24.3) has a problem opening and saving Worksheet files that contain the hash (#) character.

The ‘open file’ dialog strips off any part of the filename after a hash (#) character and so when select the file get a “file not exist” message - if # is the first character then the file is not listed at all.

Similarly unable to save a file with a hash (#) charater in the name - file just disappears from the 'save file' dialog when hit the save button.

The product ships with JDK 17 - have tried using the later JDK 21 but doesn't solve the problem.

Additional Info: Problem exists on both Windows 10 and Windows 11 ; Problem doesnt exist in previous versions of SQL Developer (eg 23.1 with jdk 11) ; Other symbol characters are fine (eg $, £, ~) - only seems to be hash (#) that have seen so far.

Can anyone shed any light on why this happening and how to resolve ? Thank you

  • 1) Contact Oracle support and file a bug report. Then if the current version isn't working for you either: 2) Don't use # in the name of files; or 3) Downgrade to an earlier version. Not sure what answer you want us to give beyond that as it's proprietary software. Commented Sep 27 at 19:55
