I recently wiped my laptop and before this everything was working fine. My desktop computer also works fine running the same code.

When I run my program locally through Visual Studio 2022 and it tries to connect to the Azure SQL database, I get this connection error. I've wiped the laptop and reinstalled and I still have the problem. I installed SQL Server data tools with no luck. I verified I have localhost certs and everything seems to matchup with my working desktop computer, same connection string etc.

I use the laptop on my work network, but my coworkers do not have this error using the same connection string and code base. So it seems it is something specific to my laptop. No ports are blocked, everything looks good on the network side. I've installed Visual Studio so many times in the past and I didn't do anything different there. It prompts me to trust the localhost cert when I first run the program and I click yes. What could be causing this issue?

Does anyone have any idea of what I should do to resolve this?

Update: I was checking the ports with netstat -a -n -o, and there is a lot of variability in the output. During all this testing, it actually worked once! This is the only time it has worked in many attempts. After that, it stopped working again after multiple attempts. Not sure how to make sense of all this but my netstat looks like this:.

This happened to me in a while ago and it turned out something was using the same port I was connecting to. I rebuilt a computer and some of my configuration was reset, and a port I manually changed reverted back to default causing a conflict. I can't remember if it was my local machine or the host, but I would monitor traffic on your local machine first and see if anything else is using the port you are trying to use.

Oof, this is where my network admin skills run short, but first impression is that there shouldn't be any internal port conflicts with that from just the netstat situation. There is obviously SOMETHING already connected on that local 7042 port though. Can you identify or kill whatever that process is, or was this when the connection worked?
