JetBrains IDE Column Selection Mode with Middle Mouse Button highlights empty lines, how to avoid this?

Question

I'm trying to use Column Selection Mode with the middle mouse button (clicking the scroll wheel) in JetBrains IDE Rider, but when I use it to select vertically, it highlights empty lines as well. I want to avoid selecting empty lines and only select lines with content.

I tried enabling Column Selection Mode with Alt + Shift + Insert, expecting it to allow vertical selection using the mouse wheel without selecting empty lines. However, it still selects empty lines.

Try using "ALT + Mouse drag" (hold ALT while selecting with the left mouse button) it will select without empty lines.
