I'm following the Baeldung tutorial for multiple datasource connections (https://www.baeldung.com/spring-data-jpa-multiple-databases) but my connections to the databases aren't working.

I have the connections configurations like this in my application.properties file:

spring.jpa.hibernate.ddl-auto=none
spring.datasource.url=jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/world?useUnicode=true&useJDBCCompliantTimezoneShift=true&useLegacyDatetimeCode=false&serverTimezone=UTC

spring.SecondDatasource.url=jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/sakila?useUnicode=true&useJDBCCompliantTimezoneShift=true&useLegacyDatetimeCode=false&serverTimezone=UTC

spring.SecondDatasource.password=root

And I added a configuration file like this:

It shows me a red underline in the prefix="spring.SecondDatasource" part of the code, and when I run the code it shows me the next error:

I have to link the configuration file to somewhere? How can I solve this?

  • The version of Spring Boot might matter here, too. If you're using 2.x, they've changed the pooling to Hikari and the properties naming convention to a stricter standard. I don't know if Baeldung has kept up: spring.io/blog/2018/03/28/property-binding-in-spring-boot-2-0 Commented Apr 12, 2019 at 18:49

You need to replace spring.SecondDatasource with spring.secondDatasource (both at the java file and properties file)

Your configuration are creating two DataSource beans. Your entity manager doesn't know which one to use. If you want to use both connections in your application, try to name your bean and use @Qualifer in your entity manager to pick the right data source to use.

    @Bean
    @ConfigurationProperties(prefix="spring.datasource")
    public DataSource primaryDataSource() {
        return DataSourceBuilder.create().build();
    }

    @Bean(name="secondaryDS")
    @ConfigurationProperties(prefix="spring.SecondDatasource")
    public DataSource secondaryDataSource() {
        return DataSourceBuilder.create().build();
    }

On the other hand, if you are trying to configure a fallback connection, you need to use something like @ConditionOnProperty to support your @Primary annotation, for example

    @Bean
    @Primary
    @ConfigurationProperties(prefix="spring.datasource")
    @ConditionalOnProperty(name="spring.datasource.url")
    public DataSource primaryDataSource() {
        return DataSourceBuilder.create().build();
    }

    @Bean
    @ConfigurationProperties(prefix="spring.SecondDatasource")
    @ConditionalOnMissingBean
    public DataSource secondaryDataSource() {
        return DataSourceBuilder.create().build();

I try to put the qualifier tag in my entity manager like this: @Repository("actorRepository") @Qualifier("secondaryDS") public interface ActorRepository extends JpaRepository<Actor, Serializable> { } but it only works with the first connection, the second connection isn't working
You can't autowire DataSource directly into Repository. Instead try to create a entitymanager using the datasource and autowire the entitymanager to your repository. For example @Bean("secondaryEM") public LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean entityManagerFactory(@Qualifier("secondaryDS") DataSource dataSource){...}, public interface ActorRepository extends JpaRepository<Actor, Serializable> { @Autowired @Qualifer("secondaryEM") EntityManager em; ...}

Replace Both : spring.datasource.url, spring.SecondDatasource.url with : spring.datasource.jdbcUrl, spring.SecondDatasource.jdbcUrl respectively.

You need to change spring.secondDatasource to spring.second-datasource in both Configuration and properties file.
