enter image description hereWhile modeling the As-Is state for the enterprise architecture of Big Organization IT main department, where the IT sub-departments provide internal services to various branches, factories, and departments across the company, I’ve encountered a challenge.

I want to capture and address key stakeholder questions such as:

Who owns an application?

Who operates that application?

Keep in mind that the actors(Business Layer) in this case are IT sub-departments such as Cybersecurity, Customer Journey, and others. The department designated as the owner holds the application(Application layer component) as an artifact and uses it in their processes. Another IT sub-department may operate the application—ensuring it works properly and improving it if needed. These roles vary across the IT sub-departments within the organization.

in the guide of archimate No direct relation between the actors of the business to the application component in the application layer. To work around this, I drafted a hypothetical solution, but I’d like to validate whether there is a better or more standard approach.

How would you recommend modeling ownership and operational responsibilities for applications across IT sub-departments in a way that stays consistent with best practices?

  • is it a breach of the archimate licence to talk about archimate? (other than for internal purposes) Commented Sep 17 at 22:44
  • can you clarify the "owner" and "operator" roles, ie is the "operator" a person who provides the service by using the application, eg. I write an answer using MS Word. Or a dev or support team for an application which is used by the customer? Commented Sep 17 at 23:22
  • similarly is the owner the head of the dep that supports/operates the service, or the person who owns the licence for the application? Commented Sep 17 at 23:23
