Strong health systems abroad not only save and improve millions of lives, but also support economic resilience, promote security, and facilitate the growth of future trade partnerships, outcomes that benefit both Canada and the world. We join 20+ organizations concerned with Canada’s announcement in Johannesburg today of a 16% cut from our previous pledge to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. This is a painful setback at a time when global stability, Canadian prosperity, and millions of lives hang in the balance. Full statement: https://bit.ly/4oTglWn | #StopAtNothing #GlobalHealth

"Right now, Canada is deciding its next move with The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. From where I stand, as someone who has spent a career relying on strong teams and strong systems, this isn’t just the right thing to do. It is one of the smartest, highest-impact public health investments we can make as a country. AIDS, TB, and malaria haven’t disappeared or gone away. They remain among the world’s leading infectious killers and continue to take millions of lives every year. Treating them as “someone else’s problem” would be ignoring the reality of the world we live in, where health threats cross borders faster than ever and failing to act puts Canadians at risk." 🆕📰 OUT NOW: An important op-ed by Dr. Hayley Wickenheiser, four-time Olympic gold-medallist, practising family and emergency medicine physician and Canadian hockey legend: https://lnkd.in/ez7NWkUG | #GlobalHealth #GlobalDev #CDNPoli #StopAtNothing #HealthforAll Mark Carney Anita Indira Anand Randeep Sarai

Toilets are essential for health, dignity, equality, and climate resilience. Yet 3.4 billion people still live without access to one that is safe and hygienic. Water, sanitation and hygiene are essential to address the health needs of women and girls. Inadequate #WASH facilities, particularly in health centres, put women’s health at risk, especially during pregnancy and childbirth, and expose them to infections and diseases. This #WorldToiletDay, we’re spotlighting the urgent need for resilient, inclusive sanitation systems – because in a changing world, our need for safe toilets never changes: https://bit.ly/47AgINz. I was honoured to attend the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) in Bogota. The energy, innovation, and commitment from global partners working to improve health outcomesesfor women and girls was truly powerful. One message stood out clearly: iron deficiency and anemia remain among the most overlooked barriers to women’s health, empowerment, and economic opportunity. Addressing micronutrient deficiencies is essential if we want to advance gender equity, improve maternal health outcomes, and strengthen communities. Throughout the week, conversations also highlighted the urgent need to address violence against women, and to ensure access to free and safe abortion as a fundamental component of sexual and reproductive health and rights. These issues are deeply interconnected, and solving them requires multi-sector collaboration and a willingness to challenge old systems. It was heartbreaking to learn one woman or girl is killed every 10 minutes by an intimate partner or a family member worldwide A special thank you to Canadian Partnership for Women and Children's Health (CanWaCH) for bringing Canadian organizations together on the global stage. Their leadership in convening, coordinating, and amplifying Canadian voices in global health is invaluable. At Lucky Iron Life, we remain committed to delivering simple, affordable, and sustainable solutions to iron deficiency and to partnering with organizations who share our vision for a healthier, more equitable world. 🇨🇦🌍 Together, we can make iron deficiency, and gender inequity, a thing of the past. #ICFP #irondeficiency #womenshealth #genderequality Caitlin McKay

Earlier this year, as part of the Canadian Partnership for Women and Children's Health (CanWaCH) Academy Learning Series, Acted Canada had the privilege of hosting a session on Nexus Programming, organized by the Multisectoral Nexus Working Group (administered by Acted Canada). This discussion highlighted practical ways to bridge humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding efforts, turning ideas into real impact. A big thank you to Acted, and colleagues from Oxfam Canada and World Vision Canada, for sharing valuable experiences and insights. Your contributions showed how collaboration can drive change on the ground. 📺 Watch the full session here: https://lnkd.in/gQYzeqJt Let’s keep the conversation going! JUST IN: World Health Organization's Global TB Report reaffirms #tuberculosis as the world's leading infectious killer, with 1.23 million deaths in 2024 alone❗️ Here's what you need to know: ✅ timely TB treatment has saved approx. 83 MILLION lives since 2000. ❌ global funding cuts in 2025 pose a SERIOUS threat. Modelling studies warn that long-term cuts could result in up to 2 MILLION additional deaths and 10 MILLION people falling ill with TB between 2025 and 2035. ✅progress continued in TB diagnosis, prevention, and treatment between 2023-2024, reflecting the impact of sustained efforts and innovation. ❌ we remain far from global targets to #endTB, especially concerning as countries dial back commitments to global health. 👉 the 8th replenishment of The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is happening RIGHT NOW.
