Big news from the REI Cooperative Action Fund! This fall, the REI Fund helped raise more than $4 million for 293 nonprofits, helping make the outdoors more accessible and inclusive for everyone. 💚 🌲 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ey-e9Jfu.
This fall, the REI Cooperative Action Fund awarded more than $4.7M in grants to 293 nonprofits! These organizations are united by their efforts to connect everyone to the health and well-being benefits of time outside. The vast majority of this fall’s grantees stem from our Local Grant Program, in which REI local teams, such as stores and distribution centers from across the country, recommend nonprofits from their own communities that align with the REI Fund’s mission. The Local Grant Program is supported in part by Capital One, which this year made a $2 million donation. Ten years of trading shopping lines for trail time, full carts for stuffed packs and clearance racks for hammock naps. What started as one bold idea to close our doors on Black Friday so every employee could spend the day outside has grown into something bigger than us. A decade later, #optoutside has become more than just a day. It’s a movement, and it’s all thanks to our community. 💚 Thank you to every employee and member who has made this tradition their own. We can’t make more time, but we can make the most of it. See you out there! Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ec8SUDjc

Shout-out to our Co-op Brands team and Director of Materials Innovation Ajay Chadha for leading the way with Ambercycle to bring regenerated polyester to outdoor gear. ♻️ Check it out below ⬇️
At REI we believe the future of outdoor gear depends on how we innovate with materials today. Our new partnership with Ambercycle is one of the ways we’re putting that belief into action. Together, we’re investing in science-driven solutions like textile-to-textile recycling to cut emissions at the source and reduce our reliance on virgin polyester. As we work toward our 2030 goals, we’re focused on scaling low-carbon materials that perform better, last longer, and have a lighter impact on the planet. It’s an exciting step toward a more circular system for the co-op, our members and the broader outdoor industry. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gtWAmzMr

A green that feels like the family camping trip of 1987. A Kodachrome red that tastes like tomato soup on a snowy day. That’s the nostalgia Amanda Russell, senior manager for color and print at REI Co-op, tapped into when creating the timeless palette: REI Archive Colors. Her team pored over every REI catalog since 1967, tracing the reds, blues, yellows and greens that have always felt like home in the outdoors, and like us. 🌲 Today at our Bend, Oregon store, we gathered to celebrate National Public Lands Day and everything our public lands have to offer. From stewardship to responsible recreation, the conversations reminded us that a shared love of the outdoors can bring people together. Visitors even got to meet Yogi 🦙 a local therapy llama who stops by from time to time. With a donation to the REI Cooperative Action Fund, folks snapped a photo with him while supporting organizations that protect and care for these places we call home. As store manager Dave Manchester said: “Easy access to public lands is part of what makes Bend so special. But we can’t take them for granted — it’s up to all of us to protect and care for these places we call home.” We’re grateful to the organizations who joined us to share their expertise and inspire action: Discover Your Forest, Oregon Natural Desert Association, Central Oregon LandWatch, Think Wild Central Oregon, UPPER DESCHUTES WATERSHED COUNCIL
