The gambling industry and its cheerleaders on here can be nauseating at times, totally detached from public perception and the reality of the harm occurring every day as a result of the sector’s practices. Operator-funded organisations have even got people with lived experience defending them in spite of their consistent breach of consumer protection regulations. The same entities have even been mobilised to argue against tax increases on the excessive profits of addictive online casinos! If anything reinforces the need for an independent statutory levy in Britain its the pathetic display of loyalty demanded by a neurotic gambling industry that we have witnessed in recent months. Now is the time for prevention and treatment organisations to look forward to freeing themselves from this undignified marriage of convenience, not to be doubling down on it

Fire teaches us something powerful about gambling: remove one element, and it can’t burn. Removing just one element of gambling – time, money or access – can help. Spot when you're most tempted to gamble and fill that time with something planned – a phone call, a hobby, anything that keeps you busy. Doing this with someone you trust helps keep you accountable. Limit access to cash: set up gambling blocks through your bank, use a prepaid card for daily spending or ask someone you trust to help manage your finances, if you're in a crisis phase. Use Gamban to block gambling sites and apps, and add extra layers like self-exclusion. Visit our 'get help' page to find support localised to you. No one approach works for everyone, but even one of these changes can interrupt harmful patterns and help you move forward. 🔥 https://lnkd.in/e8Zjk3Qb

On Friday, the coroner ruled that gambling disorder caused Lee Adams’ death. Virgin Games failed to act on warning signs while other gambling companies blocked him. Instead, they kept sending him offers and incentives. https://lnkd.in/eCRhbf9g

This #TalkMoneyWeek, we want to think about crypto. Volatility is the only consistent thing about the crypto world, and because of this, it's very easy to see the similarities between trading in crypto and gambling. Financial and gambling addiction experts argue that trading crypto is more like gambling than investing. Trading focuses on quick profits, staking large sums of money for fast returns. Recognising this risk of crypto trading is the first step towards safeguarding yourself. If you find yourself caught up in cryptocurrency and wanting to quit, remember that Gamban is here to help. We've partnered with Loqbox to help you rebuild your credit score and have a range of resources on our 'get help' page: https://gamban.com/help
