Our team works persistently to provide clients with the opportunity to maintain their independence, improve social integration and sustain a healthy lifestyle. All client’s needs are determined based on a multi-clientele assessment to determine the appropriate course of action. We are aware everyone has their own unique needs which is why we ensure a service plan is designed for each individual's requirements.
What We Offer
ALS is comprised of the Independent Living Centre and seven major programs which include a range of critical services for the individuals that require assistance, along with support for the families and or caregivers. ALS caseworkers are available to assist parents of children under 18 years old, in applying for Jordan’s Principle.

Independent Living Centre
This service is intended for: Kahnawa’kehró:non diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness - Ages 21+
The Independent Living Centre (ILC) is a 12-bed residence providing a safe and structured environment that promotes stability, social integration and overall well-being. Residents benefit from a dedicated program called the Assisted Living Mental Health Program, designed specifically to support their needs. For more information, visit the Independent Living Centre.
Independent Living Support Program
This program offers in-home support for Kahnawa’kehró:non with developmental delays & disabilities – Ages 21+
The Independent Living Support Program aids individuals who live independently or with family in the community. The purpose of the program is aimed at preserving individuals’ independence and autonomy, through personalized assessments to understand each client’s needs. Our work ensures that the individual will be able to remain living in their own homes or with parents or family as they age and avoid institutionalization. This program is intended for individuals who cannot attend day programs at the ALS or who only need basic support.
This program offers supports that focus on:
- Focus on preserving independence and autonomy through aid
- Regular check-ins and wellness visits
- Third party financial management as needed
- Supported shopping, cooking & cleaning
- Supported employment, volunteering and educational activities
- Emphasis on building community ties / relationships through activities
Special Family Support Program
This program provides support for Kahnawa’kehró:non families with multi-generational developmental delays and disabilities
The Special Family Support Program serves individuals living independently with disabilities and developmental delays. We focus on helping clients develop life management skills and competencies. The clients’ needs will be determined based on the results of the multi-clientele assessment to address the unique needs of every individual. Our program also ensures the individual will be able to remain living at home independently or with family.
This program offers supports that focus on:
- Short-term daytime respite (in home and outside)
- Psycho-education / behaviour modification
- Family preservation activities
- Escorting clients to medical appointments
- Supporting Families of individuals with higher needs
- Aid with activities of daily living as required
- Involvement in the Mature Adult Program or youth programs as appropriate
- Social outings
- Working with clients teaching basic life skills (cooking, counting money, cleaning etc.)
Little Critters Program
This program supports Kahnawa’kehró:non with special needs – Ages 5-11 years old
The Little Critters Program is designed to promote holistic well-being and social engagement for participants while supporting their families. The program combines a range of recreation, physical activity, and therapeutic support, sensory stimulation, outdoor experiences and much more.
This program offers supports that focus on:
- Socialization and creating peer groups through recreation
- Exercise to improve fitness, develop habits of physical activity
- Support for physical literacy and supporting physical therapy and occupational therapy recommendations
- Opportunities for interaction with animals and sensory stimulation
- Opportunities for nature and outdoor exposure
- Impromptu support group and/or talking circle for parents of participants
- Identifying opportunities for early intervention
Teen Social Club
This club supports Kahnawa’kehró:non with developmental or physical needs – Ages 12-19 years old
The Teen Social Club is an after-school program for teens ages 12 to 19 with developmental or physical needs. The program provides teens with enjoyable activities and opportunities to build meaningful connections with their peers. It operates Monday through Wednesday, from 3:00pm to 7:30pm, year-round. During the summer, it transitions into a day camp, running Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 2:30pm.
This program offers supports that focus on:
- Interpersonal skills, aiming at social / community integration
- Physical activity, fitness goals, healthy eating, meal preparation
- Creative pursuits and exploration of hobbies
- Development of life skills aimed towards independence
- Teamwork and modelling healthy relationships
- Prevention education and emphasis of healthy lifestyle
- Educational and cultural trips and experiences
- Integration of culture and language through education
Young Adults Program
This program supports Kahnawa’kehró:non with developmental or physical needs - Ages 20-40
The Young Adults Program (YAP) is a day program for individuals aged 20 and older with developmental or physical needs. The primary focus of the program is to foster life skills and promote independence for our clients. YAP runs Monday through Friday, from 9:00am to 2:30pm, with some occasional evening and weekend activities. YAP provides individuals with meaningful relationships centred around learning experiences and social activities. We collaborate with grassroots organizations in the community to encourage socialization between our clients and other community members.
This program offers supports that focus on:
- Emphasizing healthy lifestyle, physical activity, fitness goals (Ex: fitness trainer, Autism Karate)
- Health socialization with peer group and others
- Opportunity to participate in bi-weekly evening social outings
- Participation in supported employment and volunteering
- Interpersonal relationships and teamwork
- Educational and cultural trips and experiences
Mature Adult Program
This program supports Kahnawa’kehró:non with developmental or physical needs – Ages 41+
The Mature Adult Program offers a supportive and engaging environment for participants, focusing on mental stimulation, community integration, physical activity and much more. The program is designed for young adults who will benefit from interacting with peers of a similar age.
This program offers supports that focus on:
- Mental stimulation, art, and play during daytime respite
- Physical activity based on abilities
- Nature and outdoor exposure
- Interacting with animals and sensory stimulation
- Educational and cultural trips and experiences
- Increased socialization and integration within the community
