International Men’s Day is a moment to celebrate their contributions, reflect on the challenges men face and encourage open conversations around wellbeing and balance. This year, we're spotlighting Risk, Rest, Resilience – and how high-performing individuals need all three. Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave, along with our colleagues Alexander Ogunyanwo, Kal Sandhu, Ross Blyth, Dr. Sven Förster and Dennie Michielsen are reflecting on what Risk, Rest and Resilience means to them 👇 Sir Steve Redgrave joined Clyde & Co in Manchester for a powerful conversation on this very topic. Interviewed by Partner Chris Murray, the session explored how high performers manage pressure and protect wellbeing over time. Thanks to everyone who joined us online and in Manchester. We’re proud to see our people leaning into these conversations and taking away practical tools to support themselves and others.

When uncertainty dominates, regulatory compliance becomes more critical than ever. The maxim “prevention is better than cure” still holds true – especially in economic choppy waters. Forward-thinking businesses demonstrating agility in compliance and product innovation are gaining market advantage, turning regulatory knowledge into a strategic asset rather than viewing it as a compliance burden. Charles Urquart puts it perfectly in Clyde & Co's Corporate Risk Radar 2025 report: “These [HR] teams are instrumental, in everything from robust performance management and recruitment processes through to fostering a culture of fairness and transparency. In turn, talent retention is central to mitigating other risks a business may face.” HR isn’t just about hiring, it’s about resilience. When you keep talent engaged and supported, you reduce operational, reputational, and even compliance risks. Want to see how people strategy links to risk management? Bonjour and greetings LinkedIn! I am Partner Eric van Eyken. I joined the firm's Montréal coverage and monitoring team in 2017 following my initial career in Toronto, Paris, Miami, and Brussels that focused on international disputes and arbitration. During my time at Clyde & Co, my practice has turned to focus on cyber coverage, advising underwriters on managing cyber claims, and working with insureds to cost-effectively address these areas. Throughout my career, I have worked with top global and regional insurance clients on cyber risks—small and large. Cyber attacks are both frequent and often catastrophic to insureds, resulting in a need for rapid and effective strategies to work with underwriters, insureds, ransom negotiators, privacy counsel, and other stakeholders to attempt to resolve same. Coverage decisions must be made very quickly and communication with all involved is key. During my time at Clyde & Co, I'm proud to be part of important initiatives in addition to my work with top insurance clients. I’ve been given the discretion to work on some interesting pro bono and public advocacy projects, from amicus briefs on arbitration and insolvency law to consumer protection and other pro bono files that were hard fought! On the weekends you might find me using my strategic skills to take on opponents in a friendly board game or two. Nothing like rolling some actual dice and coming up with strategies where the win (or loss) doesn’t matter! I also enjoy spending time with my miniature husky, Luna, who is always ready to greet me after I'm away for a few days at court.

I’m looking forward to our Global Partner Conference this week. What I value most about these gatherings is having the opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the globe and hear about how our people are going above and beyond to deliver excellence for our clients while living our values. To celebrate that commitment, this year we launched our Global Excellence Awards – a programme that recognizes not just outstanding performance, but the impact our people have in shaping a culture of collaboration, innovation and inclusion. These awards reflect what matters most to us: Working as one, excelling with clients, celebrating difference, and acting boldly. If you’re a colleague reading this post and haven’t submitted your nomination, there’s still time – deadline is Friday. Judging by the incredible stories I’ve already seen, selecting the winners is going to be a challenge for our team.

“Volatility is a feature, not a bug.” That’s my perspective in Clyde & Co's latest Corporate Risk Radar 2025 report, based on what we’re seeing every day in the market. Resilient organisations aren’t just reacting to uncertainty, they’re redesigning workforces with automation, flexible resourcing, and agile structures. Risk analysis is no longer a second stage; it’s part of the upfront contracting process. For me, this is about turning unpredictability into a strategic advantage.
