How to use Chief Orders in Whiteout Survival

Tips on life in a frozen apocalypse.

What’s it like being a hard-working citizen in Whiteout Survival? What effect do Chief Orders have? We have a sneak peek for you after discovering an old frozen notebook buried in the snow.

Where to find it: To access the Orders you need to reach the Chapter 6 missions, then build the Chief’s House or tap the scale icon on the bottom right corner when you’re in your city.

Each order has a contentment cost and a cooldown period, so choose wisely to maximise their impact on your city’s growth.

Here’s what the App Store Editors are learning from one survivor’s experiences...

Day 1: Welcome to the office

The Chief called a meeting today to enact Productivity Day. That basically means, “We’re doubling resource output! Great job, team!”, but in reality, it’s ”Work harder, we need more coal.” Mood dropped by 10 points. Still, the Chief says ”It’s for the good of the city.” That’s exactly what my last manager said before making me work weekends!

Our tip to use this order: Use Productivity Day when you have high morale and plenty of food to keep survivors happy. Pair it with Festivities afterward to recover mood!

Day 3: The illusion of work-life balance

Just as I was about to pass out from exhaustion, the Chief declared Festivities! Everyone cheered. Finally, a break! We partied, we danced, we even got a +50 Mood boost… Then I realised this was just corporate trickery to keep us happy before the next big work order.

Our tip to use this order: Use Festivities right after intense work orders such as Productivity Day and Urgent Mobilisation to recover mood. It’s also great before a big battle or expansion!

Festivities is a valuable investment in your survivor’s wellbeing, with a 24-hour cooldown and a 50,000 contentment cost.

Day 5: HR denied my sick leave

Woke up with a fever. Wanted to call in sick. The Chief checked the reports. “No sick survivors in the city,” they said. Turns out, they enacted Comprehensive Care before I could even complain. I am miraculously healed. But suspicious.

Our tip to use this order: Use Comprehensive Care before a major defence or attack, or when sickness is spreading fast and you need to heal a lot of troops. If there are no sick survivors in your clinic, save it for another time.

Day 7: Productivity crisis meeting

Coal levels are low. The Chief has Urgent Mobilisation in effect. “We’re all in this together!” they say. Translation: ”If you stop working, the city collapses.” We’ve been working for 48 hours straight. Mood is down, but production is up. Eugene is crying into his pickaxe again.

Our tip to use this order: Only use Urgent Mobilisation if you desperately need resources (such as coal before a storm). Pair it with Festivities afterward to boost morale.

Day 10: The classic corporate deadline panic

We’re behind schedule. The Chief pulled out the big guns: Rush Job. ”Let’s just finish everything in one go!” That’s right. Five days of work in an instant. I don’t understand how it works, but I won’t question it. At least we can finally breathe.

Our tip to use this order: Use Rush Job when you urgently need materials for troop training, major upgrades or an upcoming event. Avoid using it when resource storage is full.

To maximise the effect of this order, make sure your resource buildings are upgraded to the highest level.

Day 14: The fake holiday before the next storm

Just when I thought we were safe, the Chief announced Double Time. “Exciting news! We’re accelerating all building projects!” Translation: ”Hope you like working overtime.” I haven’t slept since Productivity Day. Someone send help.

Our tip to use this order: Use Double Time right before starting multiple big upgrades to things like the Furnace or more than one shelter.

Day 30: Employee of the Year?

Despite everything, I survived a month under our chief. Sure, my morale has plummeted, my hands are frozen to my pickaxe and I now have an irrational fear of productivity meetings… But at least the city is thriving. I overheard the chief saying ”Good job, team!” I think that means we’ll live to see another day.

Being a good chief is a delicate balance between work and morale. Push too hard, and your survivors might revolt. Let them slack off too much, and the city collapses. Now you’re the Chief of Whiteout Survival, it’s time for you to send out the next Order. What will it be?
